The steps required to become a VMware VCP6.5 DCV

As a VMware VCI, one of the main concerns for delegates is the process of attaining their VMware Certified Professional in Datacentre Virtualisation or VCP6.5-DCV certification.

In the past the process was extremely straight forward, sit a qualifying course and then book and sit and then hopefully pass the exam.

This process changed, VMware decided that the VMware product was now so feature rich that one exam just would not cut it.

Any new candidate for the VCP6.5-DCV now has to sit two exams, the process to attain the     VCP6.5-DCV is now as follows.

As always the first requirement is to sit a qualifying course, and yes the company I work for do provide a number of ways to attend these courses, whether that be classroom based, or using our Attend rom Anywhere (AFA) format, this gives any candidate for the VCP6.5-DCV a flexible approach to attending one of the following courses.

Once the course has been sat and the candidate has built up the skills and confidence to sit the exams, the next step is to register for the two exams required. These exams are provided via Pearson VUE

The first exam that needs to be sat is the vSphere 6.5 Foundations exam.  Exam number 2V0-602

The foundations exam consists of 70 questions over a 105 minute period, the exam consists of both single and multiple choice questions, and is classified as a non-proctored exam, or in other words, this exam is delivered to the candidate via their own web browser. As for preparing for this exam it is always recommended that the candidate should check the exam blue print which is available at VMware’s Certification website. The passing score for this exam is 300 out of a possible 500.

The foundations exam relates not only to the VCP-DCV, but also is a requirement for the following VMware certifications. Pass it once and then only the core exams need to be sat for the following certifications.

VCP6-CMA, VCP6-NV, VCP6-DTM, and the VCP7-DTM

Once the vSphere 6.5 foundations exam has been sat and passed, the candidate now has the challenging task of passing the second exam, and for the VCP6.5-DCV certification the exam is the VMware Certified Professional 6.5 – Data Center Virtualization exam. Exam number 2V0-622

The core exam consists of 70 questions over a 105 minute period, the exam consists of both single and multiple choice questions, and is classified as a proctored exam, or in other words this exam is delivered by an authorised Pearson Vue testing centre. As with the foundation exam, VMware always recommend that any candidate should check the exam blueprint, as with the foundations exam the blueprint can be obtained via VMware’s Certification website. Also as with the foundations exam, the passing score for this exam is 300 out of a possible 500.

Recommended training for the Foundations exam are the following

Recommended training for the Core exam is the following

Last thing to say is, play with the product, do the reading, do the revision and good luck with both exams, as always our team is happy to help with any questions relating to the VMware Certified Professional Certification.
